How to Reach Gir National Park
Gir National Park, the biggest lion reserve in India, is a popular destination for lion admirers, as it is known for being the only refuge for the regal Asiatic lion species. Established in 1965 and declared a wildlife sanctuary in 1975, Gir is home to more than 606 plant species, nearly 2000 insect species, over 300 bird species and 36 species of mammals, including the majestic lions. The overall area of the wildlife sanctuary and the national park is 1,151.59 sq. km.
